A flatbed truck (flatbed lorry in England) is a type of truck which can be either articulated or rigid. As the name suggests, it has an entirely flat, level ‘bed’ body with no sides or roof. This allows for quick and easy loading of goods, and consequently they are used to transport heavy loads that are not delicate or vulnerable to precipitation, such as construction equipment, and also for abnormal loads that require more space than is available on a closed body. Keruing hardwood from the Apitong tree is the most popular wood used on flatbed trucks because of its durability, low cost, and the natural oils present in the wood that give Keruing it’s built-in weatherproofing. We can’t prove this, but we reckon the flatbed Ford that The Eagles sung about in Take it Easy had an awesome Keruing wood deck. Just sayin’.
